About my Pursuit of Darkness
My travels throughout America's Southwest has a twofold purpose. First and foremost, I am raising awareness about the growing issue of light pollution by conversing with everyone I meet, and, through this blog, sharing my transformative experiences with starry skies to a wider audience. Second, by living with and in darkness, I am learning hands-on the importance of preserving darkness in our day-to-day lives, at home, and within our communities.
What is the importance of dark skies? Not only does living in natural darkness boost human health by allowing our bodies to follow the regular day/night cycle they evolved around, but by protecting the night from perpetual illumination, we are also helping the living environments we inhabit.
Lastly, and of great importance, by preserving dark skies, we are keeping the experience of seeing the stars from going extinct.
